Located 197 km west of Adelaide on the Yorke Peninsula, Minlaton is the main service centre for the surrounding rural towns. A picturesque town with wide welcoming streets, Minlaton was originally named Gum Flat after the only stand of River Red Gums growing naturally on the southern Yorke Peninsula. The name Minlaton comes from the local Aboriginal word ‘minlacowie’ meaning ‘sweet water’. The visitor information centre houses a unique combination of visitor information and high quality local art and craft. We are an accredited Visitor Information Centre, stocking an extensive array of local information and brochures; souvenirs, postcards and local publications. The makers of the craft and home-made produce work behind the counter making a visit to our Centre a more personal experience. Our tea rooms provide a welcoming place to relax while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of home made cake or delicious biscuit. Take the time to chat to our friendly volunteers – find out where the fish are biting, and get a recommendation on the best beaches on the Peninsula. Our facilities include:broadband internet café; high quality crafts and produce; gallery of local artists; tearooms with fresh coffee and home baked goodies; friendly knowledgeable locals staffing the Centre; easy to find central location with convenient parking for caravans and motor homes. |
